Henna (Hn) encodes a tryptophan phenylalanine hydroxylase. It is a dual function enzyme: it hydroxylates both phenylalanine to generate tyrosine, as well as tryptophan to generate the precursor for peripheral (non-neuronal) serotonin. It is also involved in pteridine synthesis.
